Collecting Therapy Statistics
Let's Collect More Therapy Statistics by Jane Thurnell-ReadA frequent complaint of the sceptic is that we don't have have the 'proof' to back up our clai The UK Kinesiology Federation is involved in a project using MYMOP surveys. Ken Digby and Lesley Wye wrote about it in the recent KF newsletter, and I thought it should be used routinely by therapists, so I decided to include information on it in this newsletter. MYMOP is short for Measure Yourself Medical Outcome Profile. It's a one-page questionnaire that can be given to clients when they first come, and again later either at the end of the treatment or whenever seems appropriate. MYMOP was developed by the Health Services Research Collaboration, which is funded by the Medical Research Council. Papers have been published in various journals showing that it is practical, reliable and sensitive to change. It is important to use MYMOP without making any changes, because it has only been validated in its standard form. To learn more about it click here. The site also gives information on two other forms - one relating to cancer care and one to changes in medication occurring as a result of treatment. Have a look at this article by Andrew J Vickers on the need for evidence. By the way I'm looking for case studies for my web site for the general public, so please email me if you have anything suitable. It can be in your words or in the client's words, the client can be anonymous if necessary, they can be short or long. Here's a chance to do a bit of promotion for yourself. |
