Practising Emotions

Practising Emotions by Jane Thurnell-Read

In Health Kinesiology there is a procedure called emotions training. When I first started using it, I imagined that clients would need to practise positive emotions, but I found that often muscle testing suggested they needed to practise negative emotions.

At first I was puzzled by this, but as I thought about it more, it began to make sense.

People may need to practise negative emotions for several reasons:

  • to learn that they can control/switch off an emotion. If the client is given the instruction to practise being angry for 3 minutes, they also have to practise switching off the anger at the end of the 3 minutes.

  • practising emotions gives people permission to feel emotions that they may have previously suppressed.

  • to learn to express in-between emotions. Some people have little overt emotional expression between 'everything's fine' and total rage. This is disconcerting for those they live and work with, and gives no chance for problems to be discussed or remedied prior to the destructive rage. Through practising in-between emotions (such as irritation, tension, annoyance) the person is then more able to express these appropriately in their life, rather than having rage as their only way of communicating that something is wrong.

Using muscle testing or dowsing it is possible to determine:

  • which emotion(s) to practise

  • the best way to practise this emotion

  • how often to practise the emotion etc.

Health Kinesiology is one of the most fascinating of all the kinesiologies. If you want to know more, I suggest you go to the official UK web site or the international HK web site. My book on Health Kinesiology describes this powerful therapy, and includes many case histories. My very popular book on verbal questioning will help kinesiologists, TFH'ers and dowsers to improve their verbal questioning skills in this and other situations.
