What Is Subtle Energy? by Jane Thurnell-Read

Many of us spend our working lives as therapists involved with 'subtle energy', but what exactly is it? I can't give you any definitive answers, but here's some quotes to set you thinking.

The Concise Oxford Dictionary defines subtle as:

tenuous or rarefied.... evasive, mysterious, hard to grasp or trace... making fine distinctions.

Science, at the moment, does not recognise this type of energy, or have the means to detect these energies, but this does not mean that they do not exist. In an interesting article in 'Scientific American' March 1999 George Musser wrote:

Astronomers…can’t find ninety per cent of the matter in the universe…. Something swirls in the heavens and streams through our bodies without a whisper; it cannot be seen.

He goes on to say that scientists have three different ways of weighing the universe and that:

the discrepancies indicate that the universe is filled with some kind of extraordinary matter.

It may be that some or all of this elusive matter is what we refer to as ‘subtle energy’.

I think that in time all that we understand about 'subtle energy' will be incorporated into main stream knowledge - as big a shift in thinking as that brought about by Newton and Einstein. I see that happening in my life time - what an exciting thought!
